How we handle data on River & Run: what we collect, what we don't, and the choices you have. Last updated June 21, 2026.

River & Run ("we," "us") is a directory of fly shops, guides, and outfitters across the United States. This page explains what information we collect when you visit, how we use it, and how to correct or remove a business listing. We keep things deliberately minimal: there are no accounts to create and no logins to manage.

What this site is

River & Run is a business-listing directory compiled partly from public and third-party sources: business listings, mapping data, and the shops' own websites and public social profiles. Ratings and review counts are sourced from Google and link back to the original. We aim for complete, neutral coverage of independent and brand-endorsed shops alike. Listing information describes businesses, not individual consumers.

Information we collect

Usage analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are useful: page views, referring sites, approximate (coarse, IP-derived) location, device type, and on-page actions such as searches and outbound clicks. Basic, aggregate web statistics are treated as essential to running the site and are always on. Deeper analytics (such as session-level detail and individual profiles) are optional. You can decline them, and we honor your browser's "Do Not Track" setting.

Forms you submit. If you use the "Add a shop," "Claim or correct a listing," or contact forms on our About page, we receive what you send (typically a shop name, location, website, a message, and your email) so we can act on it and reply. Forms include a simple spam honeypot rather than a tracking CAPTCHA.

Your preferences. Your light/dark theme choice is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never leaves your device.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we do not sell personal information.

How we use information

To operate and improve the directory, measure which content helps anglers, respond to listing submissions and corrections, keep the data accurate, and maintain security. Aggregate, non-identifying statistics may also be used to describe the site's reach.

Third-party services

We rely on a few providers to run the site: our hosting and form provider (which processes form submissions and standard server logs), our analytics provider, Google (ratings and review counts shown with attribution and links to the source), and embedded YouTube videos on some shop profiles (YouTube may set its own cookies when a video loads). Outbound links to shops, brands, and gear retailers may be affiliate links (see below). Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy.

Cookies & your choices

We keep cookies and similar storage to a minimum. Essential, aggregate analytics run by default; you can opt out of deeper tracking via the site's consent controls, by enabling "Do Not Track," or by blocking cookies in your browser. Embedded third-party content (e.g. YouTube) may set cookies only when you load it.

Affiliate disclosure

Some outbound links to gear, flies, and retailers are affiliate links: if you buy something after clicking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes which shops or products we list or how we rank them. When affiliate links are active, they are marked accordingly in line with FTC guidance.

Business listings: corrections & removal

Because we compile listings from public sources, a business may appear before its owner contacts us. If you own or represent a listed business and want to correct, update, or remove your listing, use the "Claim or correct a listing" form on our About page and tell us what to change. We honor reasonable removal requests for business listings.

Data retention & security

We retain form submissions only as long as needed to act on them and keep the directory accurate, and we take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we keep our data footprint small by design.

Children

This site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Where we operate

River & Run is operated from the United States and serves a U.S. (and Canadian) audience. If you visit from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
